FG appraises Super Eagles performance at World Cup, charges Sports minister to do more

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting reviewed the Super Eagles performance at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

According to Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, the Minister of Sports, Tamuno Danagogo,  briefed the Council on the performance of the Super Eagles at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The Minister admitted that the team did not go far in the competition, but that he was putting in place policies to ensure better performance in future.

According to Maku, President Goodluck Jonathan and other FEC members commended the Super Eagles for their efforts but charged the Sports Minister to work harder for a more resounding outing in future tournaments.

He said, “Today also the Minister of Sports (Tamuno Danagogo), who has already returned from Brazil, briefed Council  on the performance of the Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles in Brazil and gave us a run down of how things happened.

He explained that, yes!, the dream of this country was to move beyond the jinx of Round of 16 and go into the quarter final and may be semi final and final of the competition. But, we didn't make it to that level. But, overall, we congratulated our team,'' he said.

He said that Danagogo, who admitted that the team did not go far in the competition said that he was putting in place policies to ensure better performance in future.

The team was knocked out of the competition at the Round of 16.
