THE authorities of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) may sanction Nigerian major telecom provider, MTN over its absence from a town hall meeting organized by the telecom regulator in Imo State.

The idea was mooted following the complaint of subscribers at the meeting who saw the representatives of the other service providers, while the representatives of MTN was missing.

Meanwhile, the commission has accused the Southeast part of the country as the zone where the equipment of the service providers is stolen mostly.

Dr. Femi Atoyebi, who represented the Chief Executive of the commission, Mr. Okechukwu Itanyi, said the commission was not happy for the MTN's absence, and promised to take appropriate measures.

In his presentation, the Director Technical Standards and Network Integrated, Dr. Balarabe Mohammed Sani, said, contrary to general belief, the base stations and the masts were not harmful to the users.

He therefore urged the host communities to protect the equipment.

The commission promised to carry the complaints by the subscribers to the appropriate areas to be handled.
