The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has been drawn to the attempt by some misguided elements in the State to open a parallel Secretariat of the party in the State; an action that portrays the lawless disposition of neophytes in politics.

The constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) does not recognize the acronym 'New PDP' OR 'NPDP' so also does the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; as the registration certificate of the Peoples Democratic Party dated Monday 21stDecember 1998; which was given pursuant to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Establishment Decree 17 of 1998 also attests to this fact and therefore the mere mention of a factional PDP is an illegality.

The affront and insipidity of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi got to a high once again yesterday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. For the umpteenth time, Gov. Amaechi displayed his flagrant dishonor and utmost disrespect to the person and office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GCFR).

Garrulousness, arrogance and open show of insanity are nationally acclaimed trademarks of Gov. Amaechi and his cohorts; however, when such show of lack of etiquette are continually directed at the symbol of our nationhood; at the symbol of our sovereignty; at the symbol of our collective pride as a people, then words of caution must be said continually.

It is a public knowledge that the President and Commander-in-Chief was travelling to Bayelsa State en route Port Harcourt on Thursday 12th September 2013; however, the same day was chosen by the belligerent and malcontent Gov. Amaechi and his cohorts to show case again, their now pervasive cantankerous disposition as they chose to open their 'new PDP' office in Port Harcourt; an action that can at best be termed not only illegal but also ill-conceived, wrongly timed, provocative and poorly thought out. It is an action that exhibits contemptuousness; and we therefore insist that these contemnors should be brought to book.

It is disheartening to observe that a Governor who some minutes ago was at the International Airport to receive Mr. President will suddenly accuse the same president of ordering the police to block the entrance to the Rivers State Government House. This statement is no doubt made to attract public sympathy.

In 2009 when a similar action was to be carried out, the same Governor ordered for the arrest of the perpetrators and charged them for cultism and illegal assemblage.

The PDP in Rivers State condemns in absolute terms this unwarranted and unacceptable contempt on the person and office of Mr. President.

The peace loving, respectful and respectable people of Rivers State can no longer fold our arms and close our eyes to these uncouth, uncultured and ill mannered actions of Gov. Amaechi aimed at besmirching our President and Leader of our great party.

There is no gain saying the fact, that these dissident actions will inadvertently cause a breach of the peace and has very high potential to cause mayhem in the State; as the driving force behind these actions is an intendment to cause disaffection and incite vulnerable citizens into conducting themselves in unlawful and contemptuous manner.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a law abiding Political Party lead by visionary and respectable leaders; who lead by examples and therefore cannot be cajoled into unnecessary conflict or crisis situation especially now that the elders of our great Party are working tirelessly to clean the mess that the likes of Gov. Amaechi has plagued the party with.

But we shall however warn that the State Working Committee of the Party will not hesitate to deal decisively with any one or group fanning the embers of disunity in the party. Enough is Enough!

We therefore call on the security agencies to arrest and prosecute all those that are involved in this unholy and intolerable show of disdain to serve as deterrent to other denigrates in their fold.
