Fasheun, Al-Mustapha romance: Yoruba monarchs salient

By The Citizen

Yoruba monarchs have distanced themselves from the relationship between the founder of Odua People's Congress (OPC), Fredrick Fasheun and  Al-Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, Sani Abacha who was just acquitted by the court over the killing  of Kudirat, the wife of late Moshood Abiola.

The monarchs, at a meeting held in the Ibadan residence of Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan, the Olugbo of Ugboland yesterday simply refused to make comments saying the issue was political and they would prefer not to delve into it.

The killing  of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola in 1996 was believed by many Yorubas to have involved the aides of the late General Sanni Abacha.

Some of the obas who appeared not comfortable with the acquittal of Mustapha met on the platform of the Yoruba Obas Conflict Resolution Committee and said the issue was political.

Oba Akinruntan, who spoke on behalf of the monarchs said their efforts to reconcile feuding Obas in the zone were already being fruitful.

He explained that the committee was saddled with the responsibility of  ensuring that the Obas speak with one voice.
Through this, they were hopeful that  the alleged marginalization  suffered by the Yorubas at the federal level could be properly addressed.

He said,'Olugbo,  'we are convinced of achieving our set objective of ensuring the desired unity among the Obas in Yorubaland and when we set to move round, we are sure of very warm receptions and positive disposition to our cause by the feelers being received already'.
