BEVERLY HILLS, May 31, (THEWILL) – Boko Haram seems to be running out of foodstuffs as evident in their attacks, Saturday, in two Yobe towns of Fika and Ngalda .

Fika, which is situated 150 kilometres west of Damaturu, the state capital, shares common border with Gombe State to the south.

The rampaging gunmen who stormed the towns concentrated on their targets – food stores and shops – as they only shot sporadically to scare the villagers away as they embarked on massive looting of food items and beverages in the villages.

Confirming the attacks on Sunday, chairman of Fika Local Government Area of the State, Alhaji Baba Abare, who said no life was lost in the attacks, disclosed that the gunmen shot sporadically on arriving the two towns to scare people away and make easy their assignment.

In another account, a local resident Yusuf Ibrahim, told THEWILL that the insurgents attacked Ngalda, a Yobe/Gombe border town, first. He added that the gunmen then moved over to Fika, which is the headquarters of Fika Local Government Area of Yobe state.

According to Ibrahim, during the assault on Fika, the gunmen set the Local Government Secretariat and the Magistrate court in the area on fire.

“They as well as torched the Divisional Police station,” he said.

A police source, craving anonymity, also confirmed the attack, saying the rampaging gunmen, who stormed the two towns in two Toyota Hilux vans between 7:30 and 9:00 in the evening, attacked and looted several shops as they made away with several food items.

They were also said to have stolen several motorcycles from the area during the attacks.

However, the state police commissioner, Mr. Markus Danladi, refused to comment on the attacks, insisting that the Military Joint Task Force is the only authority that can speak on such matter.
