SAN FRANCISCO, September 13, (THEWILL) – President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on Thursday night at about 9.40pm met with Governors of Northern states behind closed-doors at the First Lady’s Conference Room inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.


THEWILL gathered that President Jonathan invited the Governors to the meeting. Though details of the meeting were still sketchy as at press time, a source close to one of the governors told THEWILL that Boko Haram, Constitutional Amendment, the PIB bill, job creation, and the flooding experienced in some parts of the north were tabled at the meeting.


Vice President Namadi Sambo was also at the meeting.

The Governors of Bauchi, Kebbi, Kogi, Kano, Jigawa, Niger, Plateau, Nasaarawa, Kaduna, Borno, Benue attended the meeting. Those of Adamawa, Gombe, Katsina, Zamfara, and Kwara were represented by their deputies, while Sokoto and Taraba did not have any representation.


Briefing state house correspondents at the end of the one-hour meeting, Niger State Governor and Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Dr. Aliyu Babangida M’uazu described the meeting as fruitful and engaging saying, insecurity in the north, jobs and the recent flooding that has so far affected food production in the north amongst other issues were discussed.
