NIGER TASKS FG OVER HYPPADEC, DAMS

By NBF News

Niger State government has charged the federal government to, as a matter of urgency, ensure the take off of the Hydro Power Production Areas Commission (HYPPADEC). It also urged the government to complete the ongoing dam constructions in the state in order to reduce the vulnerability of the people and farmland around the dams to perennial flood.

The State Commissioner of Information, Communication and Strategy, Alhaji Umar Abdulhammeed Dalandi made the position of the government known, yesterday, in an interview with journalists, and commiserated with the victims of flood last weekend in Wushishi, Bosso and parts of Chanchaga local government areas of the state.

He said that the uncompleted dams aided the flood in the areas and said that no fewer than five dams were on going in the state and were not completed three decades after it was started.

'You will agree with me that the Kalgara dam started since President Shehu Shagari,  that is over 30 years, has reached only 60 percent completion stage, while Agaie /Lapai dam  has reached 90 percent stage of completion. We also have Auna dam, Swashi dam and Tundun Fulani dam.
