Lagos As World's Third Worst City, PDP Berates Tinubu, Fashola

LAGOS, August 18, (THEWILL) – The recent ranking of Lagos State as the third worst city in the world to live in by a report of the Economist Intelligence Unit is a signal that the ACN government should stop propaganda and window dressing projects, the southwestern chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said.

PDP noted that the ranking was carried out by the international organisation based on its assessment of the natural environment, state of education facilities, healthcare delivery, standard of infrastructure and the general wellbeing of the people in each of the 140 cities assessed.

“Looking at the indices used, there is nothing strange in the report to an average Nigerian who is not hoodwinked by an administration that believes more in propaganda rather than in carrying out real developmental projects,” the party observed in a statement released by its zonal publicity secretary, Hon. Kayode Babade.

It expressed happiness that the truth, which both ex-Governor Bola Tinubu and Governor Raji Fashola did not want revealed, has finally been left out to the whole world. It further urged the two ACN leaders to see the verdict as a global confirmation of their failure as administrators of the state in the last 13 years despite the trillions of naira that accrued to the state.

“Lagosians should be alive to their responsibilities and rescue themselves from the vicious hold of the Tinubu cabal in Lagos, whose major project since 1999 has been propaganda and political expansionist agenda, leaving the substance of development unattended to,” a part of the statement read.

“With this report, too, Lagosians should begin to ask questions as to the rationale behind the use of state funds to purchase political powers in other states of the federation and neighbouring countries.”

The Economic Intelligence Unit, in the results of its 2012 Global Liveability Survey, released days ago, assessed 140 cities around the world, with Lagos occupying the 138th spot, a drop from its 137th position in the 2011 ranking. Port Moresby, in Papua New Guinea, occupied 139th position while Dhaka, Bangladesh, ranked the worst liveable city in the world.

Australia’s Melbourne emerged best city to live in, scoring 97.5, followed by Vienna, Austria. Others in the top ten Helsinki, Finland and Auckland.
