THE HISTORY OF UMUEJE TOWN
Umueeje Community is one of the 8 communities that make up Ayamelum Local Government area of Anambra State and its suituates the northern part of Anambra State and it has boundary with Iga town in Enugu State therefore boundary community to Enugu State
It also have common boundary with Omasi and Ifite-Ogwari in Ayamelum Local government area. And it also have boundary with Aguleri-Otuh in Anambra East Local government of Anambra State. It is 1.2km to the orient petroleum resources brewell location at Aguleri-Otuh.
Population of Umueje communities is about 3,000,000.00 people. The major occupation of the people of Umueje community is farming. They produce crops like cassava, maize, yam, cocoyam and etc.
However those that are educated are Administrators,Leturers,laywer,Doctors,Civil and Public servants and internation business men, some of the members of Umueje community are also traders in Onitsha main Market. Even though Umueje is very close to Omobala still Umueje people are fishermen.
Administration in Umueje community,have a good system of administration which makes peace to rein, we have the organs of the administrative system (1) supreme council of elders (2) Traditional ruler in person of His Royal Majesty Igwe Dr. Elder E.U. Nneli(Chinenyere,Igwe Tali-Nachala 1 of umueje) and the members of Igwe in council (3) The town union government made up of educated citizens of the town. We have oji-ani age group, vigilant group which takes care of the security of the town. We also have group which are the youths, each group has its own function in the community. Umueje community has very important tradition and culture which are been kept by everybody. We have cultural festivals like New Yam festival, Ofalla festival which is celebrated by the traditional ruler and the cabinet chiefs in very two yrs.
Some of the cultural festival is that from September to November every year the major food which everybody eat is yam. Nobody is allowed to eat cassava and garri within the period.
Marriage in the culture of Umueje community has that nobody marrys the person that he/she has a blood relationship. The marriage at Umueje does not cost too much the cash for the dewells is Twenty thousand (#20,000).
Umueje has a very big market called Eke Umueje which holds one in 4 days, and in the market we buy all sorts of foods like cassava, fish, yam, rice, beans e.t.c.
Umueje has a versed level fertile land for agriculture Umueje community also have many streams scattered around the farm land.
