BORNO, July 31, (THEWILL) – Two suspected adherents of the Boko Haram Islamist sect were killed on Monday night while the Joint Task Force (JTF) operating in Borno State, codenamed Operation Restore Order, was intercepting eight rocket launchers and other weapons of mass destruction in transit to Maiduguri.

In a Tuesday release made available to THEWILL, spokesman of the Force, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa state said members of the JTF, in conjunction with the Department of State Services, the Multi National Joint Task Force and other security agencies, intercepted large consignment of arms and ammunition, including eight rocket-propelled launchers, at Daban Masara in Monguno Local Government, Borno State, based on intelligence information.

“The incident happened at about 9pm on Monday 30th July 2012, during which two suspected Boko Haram terrorists escorting the consignment were killed in an exchange of fire,” he said, adding that the large consignment was being moved by the sect members from Baga/Daban Masara towards Maiduguri in a blue hilux vehicle with registration number NGU19XA.

The consignment inside the vehicle recovered, he disclosed, contained eight rocket launchers, 10 rocket bombs, 10 rocket chargers, two AK 47 rifles, 13 magazines with 6 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and a Bank PHB ATM card.

Sagir also appealed to members of the public to always provide useful information that would help security agencies to quell the worrisome spate of gun and bomb attacks in the country.
