Collaboration Of Nigerian Prisons Service, Civil Service, Critical, Says Cross River HOS

CALABAR, July 31, (THEWILL) – Cross River State head of service, Mrs. Mary-Theresa Ikwen has stressed the need for collaboration between the Nigerian Prisons Service and the State Civil Service for the mutual benefit of the two institutions.

Ikwen stated this when she paid a working visit to the comptroller of the Nigerian Prisons in Calabar. She observed that as federal government agencies providing crucial services to the state, both establishments need to maintain close ties.

Possible areas of collaboration, according to the Head of Service, are in training of prisons civil workers at the Management Development Institute (MDI) and in sporting activities.

She commended the spirit of oneness among the hierarchy of the Prisons, as demonstrated by the unique nature exhibited while receiving her, calling for the sustenance of the spirit for the mutual interest of the Service.

Earlier the Comptroller of the Nigerian Prisons Service, Calabar, Mr. Vincent I. Ubi had thanked the HOS for the visit, describing it as historic and rewarding.

“The visit is rewarding because it will open new grounds for effective synergy between the two establishments for the interest of the society,” he said.

Ubi commended the warm hospitality so far accorded officials of the Nigerian Prisons in the state and an applauded the approval of the governor, Senator Liyel Imoke for the renovation of the comptroller’s official residence and provision of official vehicle.

In a similar development, the HOS also visited the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, where she acknowledged the huge contributions of the corps to the security of lives and property in the State.

Commandant of the Corps, Mr. Patrick Azuma Kalu congratulated the Head of Service for the visit, which he noted is first of its kind. He used the occasion to call on local government councils for upward review of the paltry allowance of N3, 000.00 to corps officials, regretting that the payment is not in tandem with current realities.
