Teachers Commend Airtel for Support to Primary Education … As Airtel Donates Modern Music Equipment, Other Items to Adopted School

Lagos, Nigeria; July 30th, 2012: Teachers of Oremeji Primary School 2, Ajegunle have praised leading telecoms operator, Airtel Nigeria for its unwavering commitment to the empowerment of less privileged children across the country.

Speaking, last week, during the presentation of a brand new set of musical equipment to the school by officials of Airtel, Head Teacher of Oremeji Primary School 2, Mrs. Adunni Risikatu Animashaun expressed appreciation to Airtel Nigeria for turning the fortunes of the school around from dilapidation to beauty, saying that the telco has demonstrated both passion and commitment towards uplifting less privileged children in Nigeria

“Coming to school during the rainy season used to frighten us at Oremeji Primary School 2. Not any more, courtesy of Airtel. What is very pleasing is that Airtel always seems to be coming up with ideas of touching this school in its areas of need. Our set of drums had gone bad and just like a caring father, Airtel has without prompting, met this need. I know they will do more. I have come to trust them for that because they are, indeed, committed to helping less privileged children,” Animashaun said.

On hand to make the presentations to the school was Human Resources Director, Airtel Nigeria, Jubril Saba. The HR Director explained that the donations were made because Airtel understood the importance of a well-rounded education, thereby creating a right environment for learning by supplying teaching aids like textbooks, whiteboards and writing materials as well as school uniforms to the school in question.

Saba further explained that asides from equipping the teachers with training, it has been noted that both teachers and pupils need healthy extra curricula activities which would help shape their body and minds to achieve more in their educational pursuits, hence the donations.

“At Airtel, we understand the importance of all round education. The development of a sound mind in a sound body is essential, hence we are moving to make provisions for things that will complement teaching and learning to further motivate the teachers and pupils to maximise the facilities provided,” the HR Director said.

Also speaking at the occasion, an elated Educational Secretary of the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Education Authority, Adeogun Adio Adewale while appreciating Airtel for its efforts at Oremeji Primary School 2, revealed that the stock of the local government has risen astronomically in educational circles in Lagos State courtesy of Airtel's intervention.

“I am very glad to be associated with Airtel, particularly on the efforts of the company on primary education in Lagos State. What Airtel is doing is sowing a seed which will begin to bear fruits in, say six years' time. That is when the world will understand that what the company has done is massive,” the Education Secretary said.

He used the occasion to call on other businesses to emulate the footsteps of Airtel in making the society a better place through corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Other teachers of Oremeji Primary School 2 also praised Airtel for its regular intervention.

In line with its corporate vision of empowering less privileged children across the country, Airtel Nigeria donated drumming equipment and footballs to Oremeji Primary school for learning purposes and extra-curricular activities.
