OVIE-WHISKEY WAS A SELFLESS PUBLIC OFFCER – MARK

Senate President David Mark on Thursday described the death of  the  Chairman of the defunct Federal Electoral Commission (FEDECO) Justice Victor Ovie-Whiskey as a monumental loss to the nation.

Mark stated this in a condolence message to the Government and people of Delta on the demise of the elder statesman.

This is contained in a statement by Mr Paul Mumeh, the Chief Press Secretary to the Senate President and made available to newsmen in Abuja.

Mark noted that Ovie-Whiskey was a quintessential legal icon who impacted positively on the political and economic life of Nigeria.

He said the late jurist displayed “uncommon knowledge and courage in the conduct of an election that was adjudged peaceful, free and fair.

'As the then Chief Judge of the old Bendel State, Justice Ovie-Whiskey displayed uncommon quality and integrity which necessitated his appointment to midwife the electoral system of Nigeria as the then Chairman of FEDECO.

He said that Ovie-Whiskey would be missed by the nation because he departed at a time his wealth of experience was most needed to shape and pilot the affairs of the nation.

The President of the Senate added that Ovie-Whiskey lived a life of selfless service and left his positive footprint on the sand of time.

He urged the government, people of Delta State, especially the bereaved family, to take solace in the fact that late Ovie-Whiskey lived an exemplary life worthy of emulation.
