FISCAL COMMISSION TO SANCTION ERRING AGENCIES

By NBF News

The Fiscal Responsibility Commission has threatened to sanction erring ministries, departments and agencies that violate the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007.

This was part of the resolutions adopted at the just concluded management retreat held in Lafia.

The Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Aliyu Jibril Yelwa, said the commission would adopt 'reputation sanction' on defaulting agencies.

According to a statement from the commission's spokesman, AbdulGaniyu Aminu,  Yelwa said the sanction would also expose the 'misdeeds' of such agency to the full glare of public publicity.

'We shall adopt the principle of carrot and stick approach in the quest to enforce the provision of FRA, 2007. Those who oblige and follow strictly the fiscal responsibility regime will have no regret while those who flout the rules will have the stick measure applied to them through 'naming and shaming' before the Nigerian public,' he said.

He said violators of the Act would be investigated and recommended to the Attorney-General of the Federation for prosecution.
