CONCERNED OVER CONTINUED BORDER FIGHTING, SECRETARY-GENERAL CALLS ON SUDAN, SOUTH SUDAN PRESIDENTS TO MEET, ENSURE 'QUICK AND FRUITFUL OUTCOME' OF TALKS

NEW YORK, April 3, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General remains deeply concerned over the continued fighting along the border between Sudan and South Sudan. He reiterates his calls on the Governments of Sudan and South Sudan to immediately cease hostilities and implement the agreements already reached on security, border monitoring and Abyei.

As both partieshave endeavouredto convene a presidential summit, the Secretary-General calls on President [Omer] Bashir and President [Salva] Kiir to meet as soon as possibleandensure a quick and fruitful outcome of negotiations.
