Ingredients Of Good Friendship

By Daily Graphic

Young people have different opinions about what friendship means to them and the qualities they would look out for in their friends.

Anyone who has no friend might tell you that friendship feels like the most important thing in the world.

We all want to have a true friend, so we must also learn how to be one. A true friend is reliable, and sensitive to your feelings. Being with a good friend can make you want to talk about what you think or feel freely.

If you confide in a good friend, he or she won't tell your secrets. A good friend will always be there for you.

At the beginning of any friendship, the people involved can feel nervous about whether or not the other person likes them enough and could be trusted.

But in order to create new friendships you just have to take some risks. It is only by doing your best to mix with others that the friendship can grow.

How do you know if someone is a good friend for you or not? Friendships are never perfect because there is no person in the world who thinks, feels, and behaves exactly as you do.

But some people can't deal with differences and may criticise their friends for having a mind of their own. If you have a friend like that, you have to decide if you want to sacrifice your opinions, values, and beliefs for the sake of the relationship.

A friendship shouldn't have to end just because people have differences. We all have to learn how to give in, how to apologise, how to forgive other people, how to make compromises, and how to get through hard times with friends. There is a limit, though.

When there is too much conflict or unhappiness, or when things seem all wrong with a friend, then you have to protect yourself by moving on and ending that friendship.

Many people are afraid to end certain friendships and will put up with all kinds of rotten attitudes because they are afraid they will not have anyone to talk to. It's good to be friends with different people to find out more about yourself and what you need.

Besides, being in a friendship because you feel stuck isn't a friendship at all.

You should know what you want and stand up for it. Don't let anyone walk over you or use you in the name of friendship as you enter senior high school.
