ILLEGAL POLICEMEN IN AJEGUNLE COMMUNITY
I want to use this veritable medium to call on the Acting Inspector-General of Police,M.D Abubakar and the Acting lagos state Police Commissioner to come to the aid of defenseless and vulnerable Ajegunle Okada riders, Pedestrians and Motorists over police illegal extortion of money.Ajegunle is one of the populated slum cities in Nigeria.Despite the public order from the IGP to all police officers over mounting of fake checkpoints and police escorts of individuals and coporate organizations in Nigeria. It is sad that Nigerians no longer have regard to Police as a profession due to the systematic corruption in the country.Over the years,Ajegunle has bean marked for criminal activities which only needs well-equipped police officers to fight against the menace and nothing else.Most of the Ajegunle police officers have disobeyed the new order and rather do their own thing.Though Ajegunle still has
some committed and honest police officers who have extremly carry out their official duties without qualms.No profession that is corrupt in Nigeria. Again,illegal raidings and arresting of innocent Ajegunle residents between the hours of 7pm and 8pm is rampant which to some extent many are now living in palpable fears.Police ought to be friends of the public but the reverse is the case at Ajegunle.Some of the illiterate ones being arrested unjustly are taken to their unhygenic police cells while between #5000 to #10000 is demand for bail whereas bail is free.Police brutality is more pronounced in the area.Okada riders and motorists are now victims of these illegal police officers who have turned themselves into lord of Ajegunle community.Some of the illegal checkpoints are Okoya,Opaleye,Mobil road,Wilmer road,Jimoh-Ijora,New road junction and others. However, the police is meant to help to control road traffic but it cannot be an avenue to
mandate innocent Ajegunle residents to pay money.Even the Agberos work hand in hand with the police to expliot motorists and okada riders.Ajegunle is densely populated areas which the crime rate has reduced as a result of private security guards being employed by Ajegunle community.Though the motorists and okada riders unions are not effective to fight for their members.Ajeromi-Ifelodun police station,layeni post, Tolu post and Amukoko DPOs need to be throughly investigated on the illegalities of some of the police officers in the area.The fear of Ajegunle police officers at undesignated checkpoints have led to many ghastly accidents among motorists and okada riders. Police are meant to protect lives and property but the reverse is the case.Even multiple taxes in Ajeromi-Ifelodun is at the mercy of Ajegunle traders. Lastly we urge the Acting lagos state police commissioner,the two local government chairmen of Ajeromi-Ifelodun,IGP and Lagos state
government to arrest the situation now.Ajegunle is created for good things not violence.Ajegunle police must respect the new order and stop giving numbers to motorists and okada riders that ply their illegal checkpoints which Agberos markers have defaced the buses in recent times.It is time for all illegal police officers to be brought to book now.GODDAY ODIDI.08063458693 Public affairs commentator.20 oro street Ajegunle Apapa Lagos.
