I Think My Husband Had An Affair

I think my husband had an affair when he travelled out of town recently. He went for a week. On his return, he told me a girl slept in his room but nothing happened.

We have been married for 12 years and we have three lovely children. We are good friends and have a healthy sex life. I'm not a jealous wife.

This time I have a feeling that something went on, call it women's intuition. I have told him how I feel and that I want him to tell me what happened. But since then he keeps going to bed early and has not wanted sex since he has been back (three weeks) which is unlike him.

We have not argued and I have been carrying on as normal but something is not right in our marriage since he came back from the trip. I just want to know the truth, and then we may be able to work through this.

Dear Mrs O, I wonder why your husband opened his mouth in the first place. He didn't get caught so why the confession? Has he ever heard of the phrase 'what one does not know will not hurt'?

On a more serious note, something is indeed bothering your husband. It could either be that nothing really happened with this girl and he is hurt that you don't believe him or that something did indeed happen and he does not know how to tell you.

The thing is, why did the girl end up in his room in the first place?

I will suggest you approach him when the kids are asleep and it is just you two. Let him know that you are aware that something is wrong. If he denies that there is nothing wrong, all you can do is wait it out.

If he confesses, the ball is in your court as to how you are going to react. If he confesses to being unfaithful, make sure he gets tested for sexually transmitted diseases. They are seriously making the rounds.
