SAN FRANCISCO, January 09, (THEWILL) – The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the detention of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Charge of Ogba Police Station located at Pen Cinema, following the fatal shooting of one person, while 3 others sustained life threatening gun wounds during the nationwide protests against the hike in the cost of petrol.

The DPO, Mr. Segun Fabunmi according to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jimoh Jinad, was detained at the orders of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Yakubu Alkali when information about the shootings was brought to his attention.

“The DPO has been handed over to the state Criminal Investigation Department,'' the spokesman said. He would not confirm whether the DPO was indeed the shooter.

Eyewitnesses say the DPO shot sporadically to disperse protesters and photographs posted on the social media showed three policemen manhandling Ademola who was wearing a green t-shirt and blue jeans pants, minutes before he was shot.

The shooting occurred at about 9.30 am.
