Côte d'Ivoire / UNOCI calls for better coverage of election campaigning

ABIDJAN, Côte d'Ivoire, December 6, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) notes that four days after the start of campaigning for the 11 December 2011 legislative elections, efforts remain to be made with regard to balanced information and coverage of candidates' activities.

UNOCI calls on the structures involved in media coverage of the elections to conform to the attendant legislation, in particular laws regarding the legal system governing the press and audiovisual communication, and to the provisions of the electoral code.

UNOCI urges the regulatory organs to maintain their vigilance in order to prevent any violation of their decisions in this regard.
