IORHEMBA NOW BENUE ASSEMBLY SPEAKER

By NBF News

MAKURDI-After days of negotiations and lobbying, Mr. David Iorhemba, representing Guma Constituency, has emerged the new 'consensus' Speaker of Benue State House of Assembly. He will be inaugurated today.

Iorhemba emerged few days after receiving the endorsement of the leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, in Guma Local Government Area to contest the position, following last Tuesday's annulment of the election of the former speaker, Terhemen Terzoo, from Makurdi South Constituency, by the Court of Appeal sitting in Makurdi.

Tarzoo lost his Makurdi North position to Mr. Avine Agbom of ACN.

Confirming the development, a member of the Assembly and leading member of the ruling PDP told Vanguard that the lawmaker emerged through consensus.

He said: 'We have elected David Iorhemba as the consensus Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, that is our position after the ouster of the last speaker by the appellate court.'

Iorhemba had indicated strong interest in the speakership position of the assembly when it was inaugurated in June, but stepped down at the last minute for the ousted speaker.
