Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno in Maiduguri on Monday slaughtered 20 rams for inmates of Maiduguri maximum security prison to mark Eid-el-Kabir.

The governor, who was at the prison as part of his Sallah visits, also donated assorted food items to the inmates and N1 million to the prison officials.

He advised the inmates to see the condition they found themselves in as an act of God.

``My administration had earlier this year granted amnesty to some of you and during that occasion I promised to continue with the gesture.

``I know that it is not easy to be in this type of situation but I want to urge you to be calm as I will use every machinery at my disposal to look into the problems of some of you in order to set you free,'' he said.

He promised that the state government would establish a vocational centre at the prison to enable the inmates learn various types of trade and be self-reliant when they leave the prison.

Earlier, AbubakarYusuf, the state deputy controller of prison service, commended the governor for the assistance and wished him a successful completion of his tenure.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the governor also paid a similar visit to patients at the state Specialists Hospital and donated undisclosed amount of money in envelopes to each of the patients on admission.
