Awka-The people of Nkwelle Ezunaka in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State have faulted the statement by the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe that the controversial Trans Nkisi layout in the area belongs to Onitsha.

Addressing his subjects during the Ofala festival, Igwe Achebe urged the state government to release the Trans Nkisi layout to Onitsha people, claiming it was their property.

The controversial large expanse of land had been a subject of litigation between Onitsha and Nkwelle for decades, with both laying claims to it.

In a statement in Awka, weekend, President-General of Nkwelle Ezunaka Town Union, Elder Chris Eluemuno, said the land in question was originally known as Omalima and Oyolu-Oze, adding that the larger portion of the land was later acquired by Anambra State Government and renamed Trans Nkisi layout.

According to Eluemuno, the people of Oze granted their own portion of land to a family in Onitsha, known as Ogbendida, for farming purposes only.
