DOWN WITH LEUKAEMIA AND RENAL FAILURE, OSSY NEEDS N5M TO LIVE

By NBF News

A Nigerian, Mr. Vincent Ossy Uzoeto, currently undergoing treatment at the Max Cancer Centre, Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi, India needs additional sum of N5 million for his medical bills. Failure to raise the amount will lead to stoppage of his treatment since he could no longer settle his medical expenses.

His brother, Bernard Uzoeto, told Daily Sun that the hospital is now requesting for about N5 million for his brother to be treated for cancer of the blood and kidney transplant.

He, therefore, appealed to public spirited individuals and corporate organisations to come to their assistance so that his brother can continue to access treatment in India. The patient, who worked as a banker with the defunct African Continental Bank (ACB) is a native of Awo-Idemili in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.

According to Bernard, 'If the money can be advanced on time, there is hope that he would be healed.

The doctor told us that if we can pay, the hospital has what it takes to restore his health. The hospital had started treatment with the little money he had. But when the money got finished, they stopped giving him treatment and asked for more money, which is about N5 million.'

Bernard further stated that his brother's sickness started about four months ago. He went to several clinics in Owerri and after series of tests, nothing was found wrong with him. Later, he was admitted in one of the clinics in Owerri after he was diagnosed with anaemia.

Later, a consultant oncologist at Nnewi conducted a comprehensive test on him and the result showed that he has cancer of the blood and his bone marrow can no longer produce blood.

He also started having urine failure. We took him to the consultant again and his kidneys were checked. It was discovered that his kidneys too have been partially damaged. Before he travelled to India, one of the kidneys packed up and the other one was affected too.

In the medical reports signed by Dr. Anupama Hooda, Chief Medical Oncology, Max Cancer Centre, Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi, India, shortly after Ossy's admission, he explained that investigations showed severe anaemia, raised creatinine levels and M-spike on serum protein electrophoresis (S.EPS).

He stated that he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma with renal failure and spinal cord compression among other things. Hooda, however, said that the hospital planned to do surgical decompression of the spine. He disclosed that radiotherapy and chemotherapy would follow the surgery.

He is appealing to Nigerians, corporate organisations, politicians, governors, Federal Government, business magnates, Imo State government, churches and public spirited individuals to assist them financially.
