REACTIONS TO ANAMBRA @ 20 & LETTER TO JONATHAN

By NBF News

If not Mr. Peter Obi, the 20 years of Anambra will have nothing to celebrate because the past leaders that ruled the state performed woefully. Thanks to our Gov Peter Obi for changing the face of Anambra State infrastructural development. Gordon Nnorom, Umukabia, Abia State 07089988238.

I just finished reading your write-up on Anambra @ 20. I very much agree with you. However, I would like you to write on Awada roads because they are death-traps and almost impassable. I don't know why the governor has forgotten us. Or are we not part of Anambra State? God bless you. 08032750818.

Dear Bob, Just for the records, Gentleman Mike Ejeagha is from Ezeagu LGA of Enugu State, not from Anambra State as you would want us to believe in your article of September 9 entitled, 'At 20, Anambra exudes hope and optimism,' in which you mentioned him among the notable musicians produced by Anambra State. Thanks! 08026929536. Note: Thanks for your corrigendum.

The error is regretted, RO.
After reading your column, I discovered that it is not an over statement to call Anambra 'The Light of the Nation.' I therefore say bravo to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu despite the arrest of MASSOB members rather than Boko Haramists. Sunny, Maryland 07088802760.

I read your write-up on Anambra and Peter Obi. You failed to mention the teachers and school principals who toiled to make Anambra and Igboland great. A. Ukeje, +16154035266.

Hi Obioha, You goofed in your piece of last week. Blessed Cyprian Iwene Tansi couldn't have been the first African saint. The Ugadan martyrs were canonized in the 1960s-SS Mulumba, Kizito etc. Some even claim that St. Augustine was an African having hailed from a region in the present day Tunisia. RNI, Owerri, 08033357399. Note: Thanks for the correction. The error is regretted, RO.

I do not know if you are from Anambra State because if you are, you dare not forget to mention Dr. Akwaeke Nwafor Orizu, Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme and Chief Mbazulike Amaechi. Okeke Uli, 0818330614. Note: Dear Nwadiala, I am from Imo State (Awo-Idemili) but that does not mean that I do not know that such personages are from Anambra State.

The first is from Nnewi, the second Oko, while the third is from Ukpor. I have written about them too in my previous articles on the state. In the particular article you mentioned, I pleaded that the list was by no means exhaustive, though they deserved being mentioned. Not even a full page article can chronicle who is who in Anambra State.

Going through your write-up in the Daily Sun of August 26, I am very happy for your courage. Thanks. Paul Ataver, Benue State, 07068522595.

On letter to Jonathan
Most Nigerian leaders hate the truth. What they like is lie, unlawfulness and injustice. That is the reason why they will not listen to you. 08023281042.

Thank you Robert for informing and reminding Mr. President that Iroko is a tree you climb only once. Let him fetch all the firewood now. A second climbing will be totally difficult if not impossible. Umunnakwe Emeka Henry, 08060128827.

Your letter to the president published in the Daily Sun of August 26, 2011 impressed me so much. I pray that Almighty God will inspire him to heed your advice for the benefit of the nation. Thank you so much. Tarhembe T. Joseph. Benue State, 08058206091.

Thanks my brother, please tell him (Jonathan) again that Nigeria's problem is not single tenure but good governance. Ahmed, Maiduguri, 08151710001.

Your piece to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is timely and reflects our mind. He should busy himself on what to do to leave the office in 2015 better than he met it. Tenure bill is self-serving and greedy! Stephen Ejiga, Lokoja, 08037738467.

Mr. Obioha, After reading your piece in today's Daily Sun, I felt very proud to thank you for your boldness and focus. Cheers! Raph Ike, Ikeja, 08035984793.

Mr. Robert, You have spoken well. I just read your piece in the Daily Sun. Kudos! Emma Gure, ABUTH, Zaria, 08068311283.

Reading through your piece, 'To President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan,' I had the consolation that there are Nigerians who saw and thought same with me. One thing that should be added is that the president needs to cast off this garb of double standard which his government is consciously or otherwise hoisting upon itself. Nigerians desperately desire honest leadership and service this time around. Thanks for your sincere and sound advice. He who has ears, let him hear, as our Lord Jesus Christ advised us. Okey Okereafor, Owerri, 08037951840.

When some of us shouted that a vote for Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) is a vote for OBJ third term agenda part 2, we were called names. Otherwise, how can anyone take GEJ, who openly broke the covenant he signed on PDP zoning arrangement to be a man of honour? I really pity this country. 08184894231.

It sounds funny that single term tenure is the matter on the ground rather than how to move the nation forward. It is too early to raise this issue when current government is not up to 100 days in office, when the expectation of Nigerians is good governance from the three tiers of government. The proposed six-year single term for governors and the president is not the solution to Nigeria's political problems and this should be stopped.

The problem is not about tenure elongation but performance from our leaders. Single tenure elongation is diverting attention from governance. The president's proposal is an indication that he may not perform. The National Assembly should have the final say on the bill. Gordon Chika Nnorom, Umukabia, Abia State 08084475093.

Obioha, Leaders boku. Single term gives more chance for talent hunt/test. The late Chief Obafemi Awolowo needed only a day to rule Nigeria. Gen. Yakubu Gowon was there for nine years but in only six months, Gen. Murtala Muhammed initiated Abuja. 07041124016.

Your write-up on Jonathan's six-year single term bill refers. It is your type of person that is the problem with our country, Naija. You don't believe in government. You don't see anything good in her policies. You don't give it a chance. Anyway, you are entitled to your opinion. 08037027311.

On extortion by agberos
Mr. Robert, Why don't you write on extortions by agberos and NURTW in Lagos? What we have in Lagos is a situation where monkey de work and baboon de chop. Governor Raji Fashola overlooked them because they are his kiths and kin. The commercial buses are not succeeding because of the activities of members of NURTW in Lagos. Please go to Ajegunle Motor Park and see how much they (agberos) are taking from 14-seater bus to Lagos. Thanks.

Chinweze, Lagos, 08033983282.
On Islamic banking
Both Islam and Christianity are foreign hegemonic institutions and there is nothing indigenous in nay of them. Since we have accepted to be slaves to foreign institutions, cultures and ideologies against ours, there is nothing wrong with Islamic banking. The least the Christians can do is to establish Christian non-interest banking. But they would not because their institution introduced capitalism and social class to the world. Ozo Nnaka. 07084807505.

Nigerians do not learn from their past experiences. Owing to this, they continue to slug it out over unimportant issues while the looting jamboree goes on and on. Shortly after the zoning brouhaha that polarized the country and made Nigerians see themselves as enemies of one another had been put to rest by divine intervention, the ruling class is now tabling another controversial and divisive issue like Islamic banking.

While the hapless, gullible and over-burdened masses of the country are busy fighting for or against the stuff, billions of naira will develop wings. And by the time the people must have survived the stage-managed situation, their lives would have become more impoverished, miserable and disoriented. What business does Aboki that polishes shoes, hawks suya or works as a gateman have with Islamic banking? Ifeanyi O. Ifenayichukwu. Abuja.

Robert, Your piece on Islamic banking is quite analytical and thoughtful. Gab, Abuja. 08037881573.

To Hafiz Ringim
Good day Mr. Obioha, I do enjoy your write-ups about the government. Please can you write about the Police in Ikotun, Lagos? Their extortion is too much. They treat okada, keke and danfo operators as if they are slaves in their own land. Ask the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Hafiz Ringim, if the Police in Ikotun are not paid their salaries? Please, help us out and be blessed. All Nigerians can't be police at the same time. Thanks
