Salami and those defending him are shameless - Group

An Abuja based non governmental organisation, the Society for Rule of Law in Nigeria (SRLN) has hailed the National Judicial Council's (NJC) for suspending the President of Court of Appeal (PCA), Justice Isa Ayo Salami, adding that; "the suspended PCA and those defending him are shameless people."

The group said "it is insulting for a judge, who choose to run to a lawyer for help to facilitate his confirmation as PCA by the Senate and sat in judgment over cases involving his friend, Senator Bola Tinubu's party, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to be talking about fair hearing and natural justice now that he has been caught in the web of his judicial perfidy."

SRLN noted in a statement issued by its Coordinator, Comrade Chima Ubeku that the NJC had done well by saving Nigeria and its Judiciary the "Salamic embarrassment" by kicking out Justice Salami from the Judicial system.

"At the NJC Probe panel, Salami paraded five Senior Advocates of Nigeria, he also appeared by himself. He never complained about fair hearing then.

"While the probe was on, Salami also instituted a probe against Justice Umaru Abdulai, chairman of the probe panel, he (Salami) never raised any issue on fair hearing.

"Salami and Tinubu are friends, yet he (Salami) sat in judgment over cases involving Action Congress of Nigera, Tinubu's party. Then it was fair hearing for him to have presided over cases involving his friends party.

"While being probed on his alleged unethical behaviours while handling cases involving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Salami never saw anything wrong in presiding over the Presidential Election Petition case, involving PDP. That too was fair!

"Then, none of these cho-I-chop rights activists said anything.

Apparently now that the interest of Bola Tinubu, their grand patron has been injured and their is opportunity to be 'settled' in accordance with the level of noise made, our partisan activists are now on the rooftops, shouting themselves hoax on the legality or otherwise of Salami's suspension and imminent removal.

"This man (Salami) and the chop-I-chop activists that are defending him don't have any atom of self esteem. If they have, they would have buried their heads in shame," the group said.
