MONARCHS DISOWN EX-ONDO LP CHAIR OVER RESIGNATION
Led by the Onise of Ise in Akoko North East areas of the state, Oba Adegbenro Omola, the Obas said that the reasons given by the former chairman that he was not empowered were selfish and unbecoming of a statesman.
The traditional rulers however said that they were not carried along by the former chairman before he threw in the towel.
They said: 'Dr. Olaiya Oni did not carry us along. We have come to assure the Governor that we are solidly behind him.'
Meanwhile, the state governor Dr Olusegun Mimiko said that the former Chairman who resigned last weekend is yet to submit his resignation letter.
He said that he only read of the resignation letter in a newspaper and wondered why the former chairman could not be bold enough to make his resignation letter formal
According to him, all the former Chairman said in the newspaper's report was that the state governor failed to empower him at the detriment of the people and the state.
'But to the best of my knowledge we did all we could to take care of the former Chairman. l do not want to join issues with him. God would be the Judge between the two of us.'
Dr Mimiko said Oni's exit was a deliberate plan to distract the government, but declared that he would not be deterred.
Similarly, the State Chapter of LP yesterday described the action of the former chairman as odd.
In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Femi Okunjemiruwa the party said 'It is odd that Dr. Oni chose an unorthodox route to announce his resignation instead of submitting a letter to the National Secretariat of the Party. It is pitiable that the pivot of Dr. Oni's resignation is that he has not enjoyed enough juicy contracts from the Ondo State government.
'This celebrated sentiment by the erstwhile Chairman is tangential to the ethos of the Labour Party to ensure the greatest good for the greatest number of the people of Ondo State, and not to donate public fund to some influential party chieftain. We sympathize with Dr. Oni for taking such a pugnacious path to exit the great Labour Party. While wishing him well in his newfound political endeavour, we enjoin our pragmatic Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, to focus on his widely acclaimed life-impacting programmes in our dear state.'
