Ramadan: Atiku Calls For Generosity & Brotherhood

ABUJA, August 11, (THEWILL) - As the Muslim Ramadan fasting period enters its second week, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on Muslims to avoid tendencies that might vitiate the spirit of the holy month in the Islamic calendar.

In a statement in Abuja issued by his media office, the former Vice President noted that the Ramadan is not only period of self-discipline, self-denial and restraint, but also a moment when the Muslim faithful should move close to God and increase the love of humanity.

Apparently referring to the sudden increases of food prices by traders to maximize profit because of the Ramadan period, Atiku Abubakar reminded Muslim traders that the sacrifice goes beyond abstention from food, drinks and other physical pleasures or comforts.

He explained that the Ramadan is also a unique period when Muslims should seek closer union with God and reinforce their faith, adding that it is not a moment to create economic discomfort for others for personal advantage.

The former Vice President urged leaders and followers to avoid evils like indiscipline, corruption, greed, selfishness and exploitation, which he said can stand in the way of the country’s progress, development and prosperity.

The Turaki Adamawa also called for prayers and divine guidance to help Nigeria to overcome its tough challenges of nationhood to achieve unity in diversity.
