Yenagoa-President Goodluck Jonathan, weekend, lauded the effort of the people of Otuoke in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, for commencing construction work at the Federal University sited in the community, though the Federal Government was yet to release grant for the take off of the institution.

The people of the rural settlement of Otuoke, home town of President Jonathan had sometimes in February raised about N5billion at a  launching with a view to complementing efforts of Federal Government to make the take off of the institution, the first of its kind in the Ijaw speaking state, a reality.

President who was at Otuoke to inspect the progress of work at the institution was impressed with the effort of the people, saying the October take off of date for the institution was realistic.

The President who gave reasons why the nine newly established federal universities in the country had not taken-off, said the decision by the Federal Government to stop such take-off was based on the delay in payment of take-off grants and infrastructure needed by the institutions.

President Jonathan said though the Federal Government was yet to provide grant for the take off of the universities across the country, the people of the Otuoke decided to take the bull by the horn by embarking on launching to raise fund for the take-off of the federal university being hosted by their community.
