Amosun, Fashola, Chime, Abdultafah Emerge Governors-Elect
ABEOKUTA, April 27, (THEWILL) – The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Senator Ibikunle Amosun and Babatunde Raji Fashola both of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) as the governors-elect of Ogun State and Lagos State in the just concluded governorship elections in the states.
Amosun polled 377,486 votes to beat PDP’s Tunji Olurin 188,698 and PPN’s Isiaka 131,051.
In Lagos, Fashola polled 1,509,113 to beat PDP’s Adegboyega Dosunmu who polled 300,450 votes.
The commission has also declared incumbent Governor of Enugu State Sullivan Chime as governor-elect of the state. Chime polled 419790 votes to beat his Labour Party challenger who polled 30,135 and the PDP candidate with 29,565 votes.
In Kwara, the political dynasty of strongman of Kwara politics Dr Abubakar Saraki (Oloye) was dealt a huge blow as INEC announced Abdultafah Ahmed (PDP) as governor-elect with 254,969 votes to defeat ACN’s Babatunde Belgore who polled 152,580 and Senator Gbemisola Saraki, daughter of Oloye and candidate of the ACPN who polled 72,456 votes.
In Ogun State, residents and supporters of the ACN trooped in large numbers to the streets of Abeokuta with brooms, a symbol of the party. They were led by former governor and party chieftain, Chief Segun Osoba.
Meanwhile, the out-going governor of the State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has congratulated the governor-elect on his victory in the epic gubernatorial contest, saying, "Amosun's victory actualizes the yearning of the people of Ogun State for change of political platform in the governance of the state."
He also congratulated candidates of the three parties (ACN, PPN and PDP) that took part in the election and won Senatorial, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly seats in the State.
