PDP CANDIDATES INSIST ON ONE MAN, ONE VOTE

By Lere Olayinka

Candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti Central Federal Constituency I have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the police and other security agencies in the State to make sure that no party is allowed to manipulate the electoral process, saying; “These elections must be one man, one vote if Nigeria must have credible people as their representatives in government.”

Led by the Senatorial candidate, Mr. Kayode Alufa, the candidates that included Dr. Temitope Aluko, House of Representatives for Ekiti Central Federal Constituency I, Abiodun Bankole and Hon. Peter Ajayi, House of Assembly for Irepodun/Ifelodun Constituencies I and II told PDP supporters during the party's rally at Igede-Ekiti on Thursday that plans of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to rig the elections in the State must be resisted.

Speaking at the campaign rally, Alufa said; “You are aware of the unprecedented violence perpetrated by the ACN people in Aramoko, Ire, Emure and Ijero in the few weeks and the killing of our party members in Osi-Ekiti, Iropora and Omuo last week.

“All these are geared towards one objective, the ACN people are not ready for free and fair elections because they know that they cannot win elections here in a one man, one vote situation. They want to scare us away before the Election Days so that they can have a field day to perpetrate their rigging plans. But we are ready for them.

“Therefore, you must not only come out enmasse to cast your votes on Saturday, you must stand by your votes until counting is concluded and votes cast announced at the polling units. And immediately result is announced at the polling centres, transmit them to appropriate quarters so as to avoid manipulation at the collation centres.”

Also speaking, Dr. Aluko urged votes “to make sure that they get to the polling units early enough for accreditation and stay behind to cast their votes when voting commences at 12:30pm.”

He said PDP was the party to beat in Ekiti State in the general elections, warning the ACN to desist from carrying out its well laid out plans of causing violence in PDP strongholds so as to get elections in the areas cancelled by INEC.

The campaign train, which visited all the towns and villages in the Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government, was rounded off at Iyin-Ekiti, hometown of the party's House of Reps candidate.
