SAN FRANCISCO, March 29, (THEWILL) – A Federal High Court today in Abuja failed to give an instant ruling on the bail application filed by lawyers of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) Governorship candidate for Akwa Ibom State, Senator John James Udoedehe.

Instead, the court set a March 31, 2011 date for ruling on the application.

Senator Udoedehe was arrested and detained a few days ago by the police following his alleged complicity in the politically charged violence that killed more than 30 persons and destroyed both private and government owned assets running into severals millions of naira in Uyo, the state capital.

The ACN has however accused the ruling party and the police force of intimidation ahead of the general elections in the state which remains very competitive between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) candidates.

The general election is slated to begin on April 02, 2011 with National Assembly election coming first.
