SAN FRANCISCO, March 29, (THEWILL) - The Roundtable for Democracy and Justice (RDJ) has alerted the nation of a subterranean plot by some politicians to recruit foreign mercenaries to unleash mayhem and disrupt the April polls.

The group said that the influx of foreigners into the country, majority of whom without genuine or legitimate mission, has become a source of concern.

RDJ in a statement in Abuja signed by its Executive Secretary, Mr. Donald Ugwu, specifically urged the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, to place his men on red alert to contain the excesses of “these desperate politicians wanting to win election at all costs.”

To do this RDJ suggested that all entry points, especially the open land boarders should be adequately manned to check the invasion of the country by foreigners ahead of the April polls.

The statement added that some desperate politicians have perfected plans to disrupt the forthcoming general elections especially in the states where they have the least support with intent to cause the cancellation of the results.

The group urged security personnel to closely monitor the nation’s borders to ensure that such mercenaries were promptly arrested and prosecuted.

The plot of the sponsors is to cause enough crises before, during and after the elections by engaging in systematic and orchestrated violence of an unimaginable proportion which if not nipped in the bud is capable of truncating the nation’s democracy.

RDJ recalled the mayhem unleashed in Plateau, Akwa Ibom, Borno, Katsina, Gombe and Bauchi recently by enemies of democracy and expressed fears that if the wave of violence is not checked are capable of truncating the electoral process.

The group urged Nigerians of goodwill to rise up to the occasion to prevent unpleasant consequences and save our fatherland.
