KANO, March 20, (THEWLL) - A renowned Kano Islamic scholar Sheik Hassan Al-Babi Malanbita Bakin Zuwo on Sunday called on fellow Muslims to embark on a 3-week prayer and Qur’anic recitation ostensibly to draw more support for the victory of President Goodluck Jonathan in the April general elections.

Sheik Hassan also urged all the Imams and his fellow scholars to always preach peace for the country so that President Jonathan will secure the vote of Nigerians.

According to him, “I will appreciate you the Imams and Scholars to preach for President Goodluck Jonathan during their prayers or sermons in their respective mosques across the country, because Jonathan is an embodiment of peace and love.

Sheik Hassan told THEWILL in Kano that after extensive deliberations and consultations among our fellow Muslims, we concluded that President Jonathan is the best person that should steer the affairs of the country in the next dispensation because he’s a progressive minded person who does not discriminate against tribe or religion.”

He said, “we Muslims appreciate the progressive development recorded during the last Hajj exercise and during the Fasting period were Muslims across the country experienced a Hajj free exercise which was handwork of President Jonathan.”

Sheik Hassan urged Nigerians not to indulge in any act capable of undermining the April Polls, which he said would be devoid of rancour and violence.

He also directed all his followers and well wishers to begin prayers from Tuesday for the peaceful conduct of next month’s elections.

Sheik Hassan who has followers in their thousands across the north directed them to ensure that they pray for the election of President Jonathan, stating that “we are not politicians but we are impressed with performance of President Jonathan.”
