Governor Gbenga Daniel and former President Obasanjo… In battle of wit

Embattled Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State who recently lost his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Senatorial ticket to represent Ogun East at the Senate is currently holding talks with top echelon of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.

Pointblanknews.com gathered that Governor Daniel's meeting with the ACN in Ogun State is not unconnected with a possible negotiation to take over from Alhaji Gbenga Kaka, the ACN candidate already cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to contest the Senate election.

Kaka, a former deputy governor of the state during Chief Olusegun Osoba's administration between 1999 and 2003, contested the state governorship in 2007 on the platform of the Democratic Peoples Alliance (DPA).

As at the time of going to press, it could not be ascertained as to the level of the negotiation, but sources hinted that Governor Daniel who is the South West coordinator for Jonathan/Sambo Campaign organization is very bitter with the way and manner he was disgraced by the former President Olusegun Obasanjo's faction of the PDP in the State.

The Governor had hinted yesterday of his plan to dump the PDP. He did not show up at the Presidential campaign rally in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital but claimed that his supporters prevented him from attending the rally in protest.

“I was about going to Ibadan. You came to block the way and when I asked why, I was told the people of the state are unhappy and aggrieved. I pray that God will take away those who made us angry.”
