Shell Donates ICT Centre To Kano Institution

KANO, Feb 03, (THEWILL) – A multi-million Information and Technology Centre built for Rumfa College and equipped by Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has been commissioned in Kano State.

Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abdulkareem Hassan, who represented Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau expressed appreciation to Shell for the gigantic project while hoping that the centre would be maximally utilized for the benefit of the students of institution.

Speaking on the occasion, the Managing Director of Shell Exploration and Production Company Limited, Mr. Chike Onyejekwe, explained that the donation of the ICT Centre was part of the Oil firm’s corporate responsibility in contributing to the development of Computer literacy, among secondary and tertiary institutions.

Shell Exploration Company, he pointed out has to date constructed and donated over 23 ICT projects to Secondary Schools and Universities in the country.

Onyejekwe disclosed that the project was completed within six months, while the Jevi Austin International Company Limited supplied and installed the ICT equipment, adding that the company would be saddled with the responsibility of training teachers, including the maintenance of the facilities for a period of one year.

According to him, the furnished ICT block of the School consists of 21 Desktop Computers with a UPS, a Server, two multi-functional network printers, (colour and black/white), a V-sat Internet access, with three years internet subscription for the school, including a 27KVA soundproof generator.

The MD expressed the hope that the centre would be sustained for future generation of students, pointing out that the company would continue to guide and advice the school authorities, based on their request, so as to ensure effective training of students and teachers.

Rumfa College was established in 1927. Principal of the college, Alhaji Ibrahim Iro thanked SNEPCO for providing a word class ICT Centre to the College.
