By Lere Olayinka

The National Association of Nigerians Students (NANS) Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Ekiti and Ondo States Axis has urged authorities of higher institutions in Ondo and Ekiti to sanction any student that fail to register in the ongoing voters registration exercise.

Chairman of the Ondo/Ekiti Axis of the NANS Joint Campus Committee, Comrade Aremo Gbenga Oyebode, who made this call in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti today and made available to journalists said the no efforts should be spared to achieve total support for the voters registration exercise.

Oyebode disclosed that the students' body had already forwarded letters to all higher institutions in the two States, urging the school authorities to use the voters' card as one of the criteria for registering students for examinations.

“Our position is that all eligible students must register and vote during the next general elections because we cannot continue to be passive on issue of governance in this country.

“We have observed that many students are not taking part in the exercise and this is disturbing.

“It is on this note that we have written to all the higher institutions in Ondo and Ekiti States to relax their academic activities so that students will have time to go and register.

“INEC too should make provision for more Direct Data Capturing machine, especially in the schools so as to expedite the exercise,”

Oyebode said.
