APRIL POLLS: COURT STOPS UKACHUKWU, OKADIGBO, OKONKWO, 7 OTHERS

An Awka High Court has restrained Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, Mrs. Marjorie Okadigbo, Senator Annie Okonkwo and seven others from parading and or presenting themselves to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its acting national chairman, national secretary and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as senatorial, House of Representatives and state House of Assembly candidates respectively for the 2011 general elections.

The seven others are Patrick Amuzie, Princess Mary Eze Ekwue, Anthony Iju Nwabunike, Emeka Anohu, Peter Chuma Onuorah, Golden Ebuka Ilo and Chito Ohazulike.

The court, presided over by Justice D. O. C Amaechina, also made an order of interlocutory injunction restraining PDP, its National Chairman, Dr. Bello Mohammed; National Secretary, Alhaji A. K. Baraje and former PDP national chairman, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, their agents, privies, workmen including Senator Joseph Waku from recognising or dealing with the aforementioned 10 persons from Anambra State as candidates of the party in the state.

Arising from a motion on notice dated January 19 and filed on January 20 with 46-paragraph affidavit by a stalwart of the party in the state, Prince Kenneth Emeakayi against PDP, its national chairman and 13 others in Suit No A/19/2011, Motion No A/42M/2011, the judge, after handing down eight orders, adjourned the case to February 7, for the hearing of the substantive suit in terms of adoption of both parties' written addresses filled in support of or in opposition to the originating summons.

The order reads in part: 'An order of interlocutory injunction in view of the existence of exhibits D, E1, E2, F, I, L, M, N, O, P and Q, restraining the 6-15th respondents to wit: Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, Chief (Mrs.) Marjorie Okadigbo, Senator Annie Okonkwo, Mr. Patrick Amuzie, Princess Mary Eze Ekwue, Mr. Anthony Iju Nwabunike, Mr. Emeka Anohu, Mr. Peter Chuma Onuorah, Mr. Golden Ebuka Ilo and Mr. Chito Ohazulike from parading and/or presenting themselves to the 1st-5th respondents as senatorial, House of Representatives and state House of Assembly candidates respectively of PDP in Anambra State for 2011 general elections pending the hearing and determination of the originating summons.
