KWANKWASO'S SUPPORTERS PROTEST PDP GUBER RE-RUN

Supporters of the former of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor of Kano State, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, yesterday took to the streets to protest the cancellation of the gubernatorial primary of the party and the proposed re-run of the exercise in the state. 

Few days ago, the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the PDP had cancelled the earlier exercise in the state and ordered for a fresh exercise. In the previous instance, Engineer Kwankwaso polled 1555 votes to emerge ahead of the four other aspirants.

The demonstrators had first assembled at the campaign office of the aspirant, otherwise known as 'Laggard House' and were addressed by some of the key members of the aspirant's campaign team, before they took to the streets to express their disagreement. 

Last night, rumours were rife that election materials at the state PDP secretariat had been stolen as unknown persons burgled the office. In relation to this, unconfirmed reports said the party chairman, Mr. Farouk Iya was invited to the state police headquarters for questioning.

Among the speakers were House of Representatives candidate of the party, Alhaji Mutari Ishaq, who urged the demonstrators to also pray for Allah's intervention.

The demonstrators, who protested as 'Kano Youths For Kwankwaso' marched from their post at Luggard House to a number of points in the state capital, including the emir's palace and the resident of the aspirant at Gadun Albasa, shouting their slogans: 'Kwankwaso is our choice'. Some of the placards also read: 'Jonathan: Kwankwaso is our leader'   

The leader of the demonstrators, Sheriff Garba Umar, in a press conference held at the FRCN, said that no re-run will take place in Kano State, and that the national headquarters of the party must respect the feelings of the party members in the state. 

Saturday Sun gathered that the aspirant had, a few days back, approached a Federal High Court (6) in Abuja for an ex- parte motion seeking to stop the conduct of the re-party primary in the state. 

It was gathered that the Federal High Court, presided by Justice Gabriel Kolawole, refused to grant the ex parte application and had asked them to put the other parties on notice. The case, it was gathered, will come up for hearing on Monday, in Abuja.
