SAN FRANCISCO, Jan 26, (THEWILL) – Respected lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Mike Ahamba has resigned his membership of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), a political party he helped put together, citing lack of internal democracy.

Chief Ahamba, a close associate and personal attorney of CPC Presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari made his resignation public during a press conference in Abuja Wednesday.

While explaining his political journey from the All Nigeria Peoples party (ANPP) to the CPC, Chief Ahamba said he left the ANPP alongside others to form the CPC following disagreements with the leadership of the party.

"In forming the CPC, the ideas were lofty, the expectations high and the objective unambiguous. Most of us believed that at last Nigeria would witness an ideologically based party.

"But unfortunately, the presumption of discipline, integrity and transparency as the foundation of the party has been largely rebutted, and the whole objective betrayed.

"I herby announce that I have stepped aside from active politics and returned to my law chambers in the absolute sense," he stated.

Chief Ahamba’s disagreement with the leadership of the CPC followed the party’s decision to zone the National Chairmanship position of the CPC out of the South-East against an earlier agreement that conceded the position to the zone.

Chief Ahamba had declared his intention to occupy the position.

He told journalists during the briefing that his decision to dump the CPC has not affected his relationship with General Muhammadu Buhari.
