ABUJA, Jan 23, (THEWILL) - Former Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih has flayed reports alluding that he has taken over the leadership of the party following the resignation of erstwhile chairman, Dr. Okweselieze Nwodo.

Anenih, popularly known as “Mr. Fix it” said at no time did he arrogate to himself the appellation of the ‘emperor’ of the party. The former minister of works between 1999 and 2003 under the administration of President Obasanjo said the story, which was published to that effect in one of the dailies was not true.

According to a statement from the Esan High Chief: “My attention has been drawn to a mischievous and utterly false story in the Saturday Sun of 22 January, 2011, to the effect that I have “taken charge of affairs” in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“I wish to state categorically that at no time have I directly or indirectly been involved in the day-to-day administration of the PDP.

“The PDP is a well-structured and organised political party with clear lines of authority. I do not hold any administrative positions in the party. I was a Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the PDP and currently a member of its National Executive Committee (NEC).

“The PDP has an Acting National Chairman who is capable of running the affairs of the party and a National Working Committee (NWC) which has, over the years, demonstrated proven capacity to manage the party efficiently.

“While I will continue to play a positive role in the affairs of the PDP, I have neither taken-over nor desired to take-over the administration of the party,” Anenih stated.
