KANO, Jan 12, (THEWILL) – Kano State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Tijani Gwarzo has quit the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) alongside a former Director General of the state Pilgrim Welfare Board, Alhaji Sani Lawan Kofar Mata and their supporters.

They have joined the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

The Deputy Governor told journalists in Kano that his exit from the party on whose platform he was elected on a joint ticket with Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, was hinged on the fact that the ANPP has ‘lost focus and the morale justice upon which the party was formed’, adding that the leadership of the party ‘violated the Electoral Act 2010 and the party’s constitution in respect of conduct of primaries.’

Gwarzo stressed that “the party failed in all the procedures for the primary elections’, adding that the’ delegates were not elected by the people, they are single handedly picked by the party officials.”

The Deputy Governor declared that “my supporters, directors of campaign and all well-meaning members of the party agreed that ‘our stay in ANPP is wasteful.

Abdullahi Gwarzo was in the race for the Governorship on the platform of the ANPP.

Also, a former Director General of the state Pilgrims Board, Alhaji Sani Lawan Kofar Mata who also doubled as “Limamin Allah Maimaita” of Governor Shekarau’s second term in 2007 has withdrawn his membership of the party.

Kofar Mata stated that ‘ANPP is now a dead party which nobody with legitimate interest can afford to hang on to’ adding that “as from today (Wednesday), I, Sani Lawan Kofar Mata has withdrawn my membership from the ANPP, and will make my new party known very soon.”
