LAGOS, Jan 05, (THEWILL) – After several weeks of suspense, former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) Lagos chapter today finally endorsed Lagos State Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) as its candidate for the 2011 Lagos State Governorship election amid accolade and jubilation in the state.

Recall THEWILL had exclusively reported some days back that the leadership of the party had decided to support the re-election bid of the governor after a resolution was reached following their differences.

At a stakeholders meeting at the ACN Acme Road party secretariat on Wednesday, Tinubu and other party stalwarts raised Fashola’s hands in approval of his reelection bid.

Tinubu was first to speak before other party leaders spoke. Those at the meeting include: state party Chairman, Otunba Henry Oladele Ajomale; Senator Olorunibe Mamora; Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon; Senator Muniru Muse; Otunba Bush Alebiosu; and Cardinal James Odumbaku among others.

“By the power conferred on me by the ACN and in consultation with all party leaders, I announce the endorsement of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola for reelection as governor in the forthcoming election,” Tinubu said. The former governor denied the rumour of his estrangement with Fashola, saying, the rumours were peddled by those he called ‘political rodents and enemies.’

He gave Fashola an 85 percent pass mark on his performance as Governor of Lagos State.

“Governor Fashola remains the best man for the job of state governor. He is my son. Those who were peddling rumours are those that did not know what endeared him to me. They are agents of destruction, political rodents, enemies and scavengers in the corridors of power that want to continue to loot the state funds without working to deliver dividends of democracy.

“They said I was jealous of his achievements and all sort of things. If you have a son that has surpassed your records, you celebrate him. I am the pathfinder. He is the Navigator. I am the one that identified the talent,” Tinubu stated. He called on all Lagos residents “to come out en-masse to participate in the voters registration exercise billed to commence across the country very soon. The people can only elect their desired leaders when they register to vote,” he added. With the ACN’s endorsement, Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, is expected to win the Lagos State Governorship election because of his popularity amongst residents of the state.
