WITH JONATHAN AS PRESIDENT, NIGERIA'S UNITY WILL BE STRENGTHENED IN 2011 – GROUP

By Lere Olayinka

With Nigeria electing the first president from the minority South South geo-political zone in 2011, the unity of Nigeria as an indivisible entity will be further strengthened, the Ekiti State Chapter of the Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Council has said.

State Coordinator of the Campaign Organisation, Rt. Hon. Femi Akinyemi, while addressing local government and ward coordinators on the organisation during a meeting in Ado-Ekiti, today described the year 2011 as crucial to the survival of Nigeria as an indivisible entity.

He said; “The moment President Goodluck Jonathan is elected as President of Nigeria, we would have succeeded in telling the outside world that North, South, East and West, Nigeria is one.

“In 2011, what we only need on our part is to remain steadfast as members of our great party, the PDP and continue to support the presidential aspiration of President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo.

“Like we have said before, what Nigeria needs at the moment is a President whose appeal is national and not someone that will owe his emergence as a president to ethnic sentiments.

“Therefore, you all owe it a duty to continue to educate our people on the necessity of a Goodluck Jonathan and Namadi Sambo presidency in 2011.”

Speaking further, Akinyemi, a former speaker of the old Ondo State House of Assembly urged members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State to remain resolute in their support for the party, saying; “judicial victories recorded by the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) on Ekiti and Osun States governorship elections was not a measure of acceptability of the party in the Southwest and that must be shown to the entire world during the

2011 general elections.
“Even with the last week bye-election in Moba Local Government, you will all agree with me that those noise makers in the ACN only exist on the pages of newspapers. If they are popular as they claimed, would they have required thugs and government officials to snatch ballot boxes to be able to win a mere five-ward election?

“Therefore, I wish to implore all of you here today that what our friends on the other side had was judicial victory which they themselves know they do not deserve and cannot sustain.

“Remain peaceful as all of you have been since that judicial robbery and by the grace of God, 2011 will bring to us good tidings.”
