JOS, The police Nov 22, (THEWILL) - The Plateau State Police Command has declared the activities of a security outfit; the “Peace Corps of Nigeria” illegal.


raided the premises of the agency and arrested some of its employees and applicants who allegedly manhandled a police detective during a recruitment exercise last Friday.


Police Public Relations Officer, PRO, Mr. Mohammed A. Lerama at a press conference said: “The so-called Peace Corps of Nigeria’ under the guise of recruitment into the organization, flouted (an earlier) directive and continued with its activities in the state.”


He said, the clamp down on the corps by the police during the recruitment of over 2,500 applicants followed the assaulted and unlawfully detention of police officers who had gone to the agency’s location to seek information.


According to him, four staff and three applicants were picked up by the police and items recovered include two sacks of T-shirts, 18 rolls of face cap, 2 LG coloured television, one desk top monitor, one UPS, one printer, a bundle of peace corps pamphlets, one banner and one signboard.


Each applicant had deposited N25, 000 to obtain recruitment forms but the police command continue to maintain that the recruitment exercise remains unlawful until a Jos court determines whether the agency is illegal or not.


Meanwhile, in another development, the Plateau State Police said it arrested Alhaji Idris Isah for impersonating the Taraba State Commissioner of Education, while attempting toreceive N13, 000 before a contract is awarded.


The command also said it detained an internet fraudster who threatened Mr. Etukudoh Sunday with death if he fails to deposit a N1.9m into a bank account within a stipulated timeline.
