ENYIMBA PLAYERS THREATEN STRIKE ACTION

By NBF News

Enyimba players have threatened to boycott their Premier League match on Saturday over unpaid signing-on fees and allowances, threatening the club's chances of defending their title, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

The players said on Thursday in Aba that they would not honour their Saturday's match with Sunshine FC of Akure at the Ijebu-Ode Township Stadium if they were not paid.

Some of them who spoke anonymously said the state government and club management had been insensitive to their plight.

'Can you imagine that many of us are still being owed our signing-on fees and allowances for three years?' one of them said anonymously.

He said that the players managed to play their home league season opener in Aba against Ocean Boys of Bayelsa which they won 1-0.

The club chairman could not be reached for comment but a senior official of the club confirmed the players claim to NAN under condition of anonymity.

He, however, said that the management was working to resolve the impasse to enable the players to play at the weekend.
