ABUJA, Nov 01, (THEWILL) - Ahead of the Governors’ Forum meeting slated for Wednesday this week, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors will Tuesday hold an emergency meeting to ratify the appointment of Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun state as the new Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF).

The development is coming on the heels of Bukola Saraki’s insistence that he remains the authentic Chairman of the forum, a move that is not acceptable to the Governors because of his presidential ambition.

THEWILL gathered from a source close to Governor Suswan today in Abuja that Governor Gbenga Daniel remains the new chair of the NGF and that the ratification is a mere formality, should the Wednesday meeting hold, reasoning that Bukola Saraki cannot be nursing a presidential ambition and still hold on to the chairmanship of the NGF. “What he does not understand is that we are not fighting him but he should know that he cannot hold on to that position and expect us to follow him sheepishly,” the source told THEWILL.

The source further said that he should distinguish between his presidential ambition and being a Governor so that the essence of the Governors Forum is not derailed due to partisanship. Governor Saraki alongside Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole and Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau had on Sunday created a crack in the forum following their strong criticism of the process that led to the selection of Gbenga Daniel as the new Chairman of the NGF, saying that the meeting held to endorse Daniels was not in accordance with the standing rules of the NGF and stated that Saraki remains the substantive chair of NGF.
