Presidency Confirms Release of Kidnapped Oyo Pupils and Teachers (Video)
All schoolchildren and teachers abducted during the May 15 attack on the Ahoro-Esiele community in Oyo State's Oriire Local Government Area have been released. The victims, who included 46 pupils, teachers, and a principal, were freed following an intense period of captivity that triggered nationwide concern. Security forces coordinated efforts to secure the release after gunmen invaded the community.
The attack occurred when armed men raided the rural area, sparking panic and launching a high-profile kidnapping case that highlighted the vulnerability of schools in the region. The incident prompted swift action from federal and local security agencies aimed at recovering the large group of hostages.
The ordeal included a tragic turn, as the captors beheaded one of the kidnapped teachers, Michael Oyedokun , days after the initial abduction. This act caused widespread outrage and increased pressure on authorities to resolve the situation, leaving the community to mourn the loss while welcoming back the survivors.
The Nigerian Voice has confirmed the successful rescue of the remaining victims. Official details regarding the logistics of the rescue operation and whether any suspects were arrested have not yet been disclosed by authorities.
