NNL: Lobi Stars Appoint Bala Nikyu As New Technical Adviser Ahead Of 2026/27 Season
Lobi Stars have confirmed the appointment of experienced Nigerian coach Bala Nikyu as the club's new technical adviser ahead of preparations for the 2026/27 Nigeria National League (NNL) campaign.
The Makurdi-based side has entrusted Nikyu with the task of guiding the team back to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after missing out on promotion during the previous NNL season.
Lobi Stars endured a difficult spell after suffering relegation from the top flight at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Despite making a strong push for an immediate return, the club narrowly failed to secure promotion, prompting the management to strengthen the technical department with an experienced hand.
Nikyu arrives with an impressive coaching résumé built over several years in Nigerian football. Throughout his managerial career, he has handled a number of notable clubs, including Wikki Tourists, Plateau United and Gombe United, earning a reputation for developing competitive teams and working effectively under pressure.
Beyond club football, the veteran tactician has also served at the international level, taking charge of Nigeria's U-17 women's national team, the Flamingos.
His experience with both domestic and national teams is expected to provide valuable leadership as Lobi Stars begin another promotion campaign.
Club officials will be hoping Nikyu's tactical knowledge and wealth of experience can inspire a turnaround in fortunes as the Alia Boys seek a return to the NPFL.
The former top-flight side is expected to begin preparations for the new season soon, with promotion back to the elite division remaining the club's primary objective.
