Residents and local vigilante members in Dansarai community, Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, successfully repelled an attack by suspected bandits, killing two of the assailants during a fierce gun battle.

The attack reportedly occurred on Monday night when armed bandits stormed the community in an apparent attempt to launch an assault. However, the attackers were met with stiff resistance from residents and vigilante operatives, who engaged them in a confrontation that forced them to retreat.

A security monitoring platform, Bakatsine, disclosed the development on Tuesday, citing local sources familiar with the incident.

According to the platform, “Last night, bandits attempted to attack the Dansarai community in Malumfashi LGA of Katsina State, but were met with fierce resistance from local residents and vigilantes, who successfully repelled the attack and prevented the bandits from achieving their objective.

“Local sources indicate that two of the bandits were killed during the confrontation. The bravery and determination displayed by the people and vigilantes of Dansarai in defending their community deserve commendation."

Despite the successful defence of the community, the clash reportedly claimed the lives of some residents, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“Sadly, the clash also claimed the lives of some community members, while several others sustained injuries,” Bakatsine added.

Communities in Katsina State have continued to face recurring attacks by armed bandits, particularly in rural areas, as security agencies and local vigilante groups intensify efforts to curb criminal activities across the North-West.

Following the latest attack, condolences have continued to pour in for the families of those who lost their lives, while prayers have also been offered for the speedy recovery of those injured during the confrontation.
